On Foot Through Nuremberg: The Most Beautiful Walks

    Image: ROSS and HELEN

GERMANY: With its medieval architecture, Nuremberg is a city full of history, charm and diversity - and is wonderful to discover on foot! Whether through winding alleyways in the old town, along natural riverbanks or on a detour into the past: our five most beautiful walks show just how varied a stroll through the city can be. With its central location, the Adina Hotel Nuremberg is the ideal starting point and ensures that you can recharge your batteries after your discovery tour:

Through The Medieval Houses of Weißgerbergasse Gasse

Anyone exploring Nuremberg should make a detour to the picturesque Weißgerbergasse, as this is home to the city's largest ensemble of historic craftsmen's houses, which exude a touch of the Middle Ages with their charming half-timbered façades. Once home to wealthy tanners, the lovingly restored buildings are now a lively mix of cafés, bars, small shops and modern craft businesses. The route leads from the Adina Hotel towards the main market, past St Sebald's Church and through the wine market, directly into Weißenberger Gasse. This walk combines history and the present in a unique way and is a must for anyone who wants to discover Nuremberg on foot.

    Along The Pegnitz River

If you long for nature and idyllic scenery on your city trip, you should follow the course of the Pegnitz towards the next city of Fürth. From the Adina Hotel Nuremberg, walk about 10 minutes to the Kettensteg, cross the Pegnitz and follow the river round to the left. After crossing the Hallerwiese park, take a short detour to the Hesperidengärten and the historic Johannisfriedhof cemetery. The route then follows the river again, where you can enjoy the idyllic nature of the Pegnitz meadows and valleys. Relax here and take some provisions with you for a picnic in the countryside. If you fancy a longer walk, you can follow the Pegnitz to Fürth City Park or even to Fürth city centre, where a cosy old town with charming alleyways awaits you. From there, you can easily take the underground back to Nuremberg, but even if you only walk part of the way, the walk along the Pegnitz is definitely worthwhile.

Historic Rock Corridors: Discover Nuremberg's Underworld

A walk underground? It's possible in Nuremberg! The Historic Rock Corridors, an extensive labyrinth of sandstone cellars, take visitors into a fascinating underworld. They were originally used to store beer from the Middle Ages onwards, and later as shelters during the Second World War. The tour leads through cool, mystical corridors that tell exciting stories from Nuremberg's past. An experience that shows Nuremberg from a completely new perspective and promises a special mixture of history, adventure and a pinch of goose bumps. The entrance to the Felsengänge is located at Bergstraße 19, tickets are available directly on site or at the Tourist Information office.

Guided City Tour: Experience Nuremberg's Old Town

If you not only want to see the highlights of the city but also learn about their historical background, you shouldn't miss a guided tour through the most beautiful parts of the Old Town. Competent city guides will take you on an exciting journey through the city's past - from the imperial era to modern times. The tour takes you to the most famous sights such as the Imperial Castle, the main market square with the Beautiful Fountain and the historic Frauenkirche. Along the way, you will learn interesting history as well as entertaining anecdotes and insider tips. Perfect for first-time visitors who want to experience Nuremberg's Old Town in all its charm. The meeting point is in front of the Hangman's House, which is about 600 metres from the Adina Hotel. Tickets are available from the local Tourist Information office.

Around The Lake Dutzendteich Where Nature Meets History

A tour around the Dutzendteich lake is the perfect way to combine nature and history. The route leads along the Small and Large Lakes Dutzendteich and Lake Silbersee, idyllic places that invite you to relax and enjoy. Along the way, you will encounter important witnesses to history, such as the imposing Congress Hall and the Zeppelin grandstand. Information boards along the way provide fascinating insights into the past of the former Nazi Party Rally Grounds and give you a better understanding of the historical context. In summer, you can also grab a pedalo boat and enjoy nature from the lake.
