    Nuremberg by Bike

GERMANY: The home of gingerbread and bratwurst sausages, Nuremberg is as famous for its rich heritage as it is for its lively nightlife. In the historical old town, the most important tourist attractions are so close to each other that a bike is the perfect mode of transport... and a stay at the Adina Apartment Hotel Nuremberg puts you in the thick of the action.

To make things even easier for tourists, there's a special system throughout the Franconian metropolis to guide cyclists on their way.  Important places of interest in the historical old town are clearly signposted, as are all the cultural and leisure facilities in the centre of town and surrounds. These routes take you away from major streets on bike paths that meander their way along back streets and through parks, allowing you a real taste of the city. For those that like to plan their day, be sure to pick up an “Auf 8 Routen radelnd durch Nürnberg” (Bike Eight Routes Through Nuremberg) brochure at the BürgerInformationsZentrum in the Rathaus at Hauptmarkt.

The countryside surrounding Nuremberg is stunning, but if you're using pedal power to get around, you need to be fighting fit and prepared to cover some longer distances. One of the most beautiful multi-day rides takes you along the River Regnitz bike path or the Fünf-Flüsse (Five Rivers) path on a 300km round trip from Nuremberg through Hersbruck, Amberg, Regensburg, Beilngrie and Neumarkt.

As cycling has grown in popularity, the city’s regional public transport operator VGN has released no less than 50 bike tours to shoot cyclists of all shapes and abilities. You can choose from the “Old Railroad Track” tour (22km); ride a stretch along the “Tour de Franconie”; or tackle the “Mountain BikeTrail. For those that dare, the "Pegnitz Tour”, the culinary tour for connoisseurs “Genusstour durch kleine Flusstäler, urfränkische Dörfer und Weinberge” around 60km in length or go even further than 90km on the “Five-River Tour through Steigerwald”. These tours can all be wonderfully combined with the public transport system.

You’ll find the right bike for your discoveries, for example, from Rent A Bike Nuernberg. There, you can find the right two-wheeler for every tour – from city or trekking bikes, to e-bikes, children’s bike seats, saddle bags, helmets, and bike maps. And best of all: Your bike will be delivered to you directly at the hotel.

And if you’re in the mood for travelling open-air in town but don’t want to do any pedalling – just call a Velotaxi. These bike taxis are equipped with both an electrical auxiliary motor and a solar panel and will take you wherever you want to go in the city, while offering guided fun tours through Nuremberg.
